What is a FFL?
A Federal Firearms License (FFL) is a license authorized by the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF). A FFL is required for the legal transfer of firearms by businesses involved in the sale of firearms interstate and intrastate, as well as for the manufacture of firearms or ammunition.
Gun shops are sometimes referred to as a FFL, FFL dealer, or FFL holder because they have a Federal Firearms License and are legal businesses that sell firearms. A FFL transfer involves the shipping of a gun between two gun shops that both have a Federal Firearms License.
Finding a FFL near you
If you purchase a firearm from Dallas Gun Source, but do not live in the Dallas / Ft. Worth area you can contact us ([email protected] or 972-590-4242) to locate a FFL dealer near you. Before purchasing your gun from DGS or soon after, you will need to check with your local FFL to make certain your purchase will not violate any Local, State, or Federal laws. It is a good idea to provide the FFL you would like to use as the ship to when you checkout through the shopping cart. The FFL you select will be responsible for conducting the required background check before transferring the firearm to you.
